Shani Amavasya is very appropriate day to perform Hawan, Homam and Yagya to appease Lord Shani. Shani Tailabhishekam and Shani Shanti Puja are the most important ceremonies performed during Shani Amavasya. Above ceremonies are performed to lessen the effect of Shani Dosha, which is popularly known as Sade Sati, in the Horoscope.
 
Importance of Shani Amavasya
Shani Amavasya in 2014 will be celebrating on July 26. Amavasya is the day when the Moon is not visible in the sky and hence these days are believed to be very inauspicious. When such days coincide with Saturdays then that day is termed as Shani Amavasya. However, Shani Amavasya is quite similar to all other Amavasyas but there are some specific works that are advised to be done on this day. Worshipping Lord Shani on this particular day will bless a person with the benefic effects of planet Saturn.

Therefore, Shani Amavasya is not less than a boon for the people who are affected by the afflicted Shani. It is advisable for such people to offer prayers to Lord Shani and also to perform the exact rituals to reduce the malefic effects of Saturn.

Shani Amavasya is particularly dedicated to rituals and activities done for 'pitron' (dead ancestors). You can do fast or other rituals for your dead ancestor that will provide peace to their soul. As mentioned in Holy Scriptures, worshipping or praying lord Shani during Shani Amavasya you can certainly be free from any kind of fear or phobia in life. As Amavasya or full moon day is usually considered as inauspicious but if amavasya falls on Saturday it gives special importance and makes this day very blessed and fortunate. For this auspicious occasion, "both Amavasya and Lord Shani reflect black color so worshipping black colored lord shani during this Shani Amavasya definitely will bring fortunate things, immense joy, and affluent wealth for you, diminish darkness from your live, so must offer your devotion towards this deity".

Shani being a very powerful planet has intense effects on the native. If the effects of Saturn on a being are negative then those would be extremely negative and that person has to suffer a lot. Therefore, it is highly recommended to worship on the day of Shani Amavasya
